Creativity, Diversity & Disability

A group of staff and students at Cardiff University, supported by the Wales Doctoral Training Partnership,  would like to mark the UN’s International Disability Day on 3rd December with a collaborative, digital, multimedia event::

“Creativity, Diversity, and Disability: A creative representation of lived experiences of the move to a more digital world due to the Covid-19  pandemic”

This will be a digital exhibition of creative expressions from individuals, groups, and organisations that depict, present, and represent experiences of and from individuals, groups, and organisations.  The organisers hope to collate and share the contributions on a multimedia, digital platform, hopefully highlighting the diversity within disabled communities and experiences.
If you would like to contribute to the event, please send a submission by 5th November to cddwales2021@gmail.com. We invite submissions from individuals, groups, and organisations, particularly those from groups underrepresented in current disability discourse.

We welcome creative contributions in a range of formats suitable for a digital display including:
Images – photographs, graphics, scanned drawings, etc.
Written Poetry or prose
Spoken (recorded) poetry or prose
Music
We are excited to see how contributors interpret the term ‘diversity’ and we hope to learn from the submissions. As a starting point, however, diversity for us involves two key elements:
a broad interpretation of disability including (but not limited to) visible impairments, neurodiversity, mental health conditions, chronic illness, and more.
A range of other social characteristics and backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexuality, age
Submissions must include
Names (individual, group, organisation)
Title
Short Description - max 180 characters
Full Description - max 250 words
Authorisation to share the submission piece online and on social media (with credit)
Alt Text or captioning where applicable
Email Address
Confirmation that there is no copyright conflict/Details of required copyright acknowledgment
Please also include your Twitter handle and other social media accounts where possible so that you can be tagged in any applicable social media posts.

We want this event to be as inclusive as possible and therefore hope to accept all submissions. However, we will only accept submissions that meet the following criteria:
Meet all key elements of the event title
Contain all required submission information

Should we receive more submissions than anticipated we will make a selection that ensures the compiled submissions reflect a range of creativity, health conditions, impairments, and experiences.
